Reps do not resist change — they resist surprise
Every comp plan redesign we have managed has surfaced the same pattern: resistance is almost never about the change itself. It is about timing, transparency, and trust. Reps who are consulted early, given clear timelines, and shown the rationale behind changes will accept almost any plan structure.
The communication cadence that reduces pushback
We recommend three touchpoints: a preview meeting six weeks before plan year, a detailed walkthrough with Q-and-A four weeks before, and a written plan document with examples two weeks before. By day one of the new plan, every rep should feel informed, not surprised.
